According to Kadereit & al. (2006) Patellifolia is a separate genus, more closely related to Habliztia than Beta. According to Thulin & al. (2010) Patellifolia includes only one polymorphic species within a wide Macaronesian – Mediterranean distribution and a small disjunct east African population.A,B,C
