Endemic to Minas Gerais (Diamantina Mun.), Brazil.A

Description

Perennial with a taproot or rarely annual (?) herb with caudex; stems erect, densely covered with short papillae; leaves papillate, oblong or lanceolate, appressed or somewhat spreading, cuneate, 2.0–4.0 cm long and 0.2–0.7 cm wide; inflorescence a spike; flowers subsessile, with the pedicels 0.25–0.5 mm long, with a bract and two bracteoles; perianth segments 5, oblong, greenish; stamens 6–8; stigmas 2, thick; fruit 1.1–1.25 × 0.9–1.1 mm, with short finger-shaped outgrowths; seed 0.9–1.0 mm, with rough surface. Morphologically, this species is most similar to M. celosioides and is distinguished by the papillate stems and leaves.A
