Two species; southwestern United States & Mexico. Hartman (2005) noted seed and flower characters suggesting a close relationship to Achyronychia; Greenberg & Donoghue (2011) showed this for S. rixfordii (Brandegee) Munz & I. M. Johnst., but S. parryi (Hemsl.) I. M. Johnst. clustered with Sphaerocoma aucheri Boiss. (= S. hookeri T. Anderson subsp. aucheri (Boiss.) Kool & Thulin).A
