Monotypic; eastern Mediterranean. Formerly placed in an isolated position within the Caryophylloideae, molecular studies, including Harbaugh & al. (2010), Greenberg & Donoghue (2011), and Dillenberger & Kadereit (2014), place Drypis as sister to all other sampled taxa in tribe Sagineae.A
