About 50 species, most being narrowly distributed endemics. Herniaria remains largely unsampled for DNA (four species in Greenberg & Donoghue 2011) and is likely to be closely related to Paronychia subg. Anoplonychia; see Oxelman & al. (2002) and Greenberg & Donoghue (2011).A
