Barbeuiaceae

Barbeuiaceae

Introduction

A monotypic family restricted to Madagascar (Rohwer 1993). The family is characterised by ovaries consisting of two united carpels with two locules and by capsules (Rohwer 1993). Traditionally, the family was placed in Phytolaccaceae subfamily Barbeuioideae but its position as independent lineage has been supported by several molecular phylogenetic studies (Cuénoud & al. 2002; Hilu & al. 2003; Schäferhoff & al. 2009).
