Genus of about 90 species, found in temperate regions of the Northern hemisphere and in South America (Chile, Tierra del Fuego); a centre of distribution is the Iberian Peninsula (Nieto Feliner 1990). Monophyly of Armeria is supported by several studies (Lledó & al. 2005; Moharrek & al. 2014). Fuertes Aguilar & Nieto Feliner (2003) discuss the reticulate evolution in Armeria.A
