Engellaria Iamonico in Acta Bot. Mex. 128(e1846): 4. 2021 sec. Iamonico 2021

The genus Engellaria Iamonico was segregated from Stellaria based on both molecular and morphological evidence (Iamonico 2021). Molecular data showed that Stellaria obtusa Engelm. [≡ E. obtusa (Engelm.) Iamonico, the only member of Engellaria] is not included in the Stellaria s.s. clade, but is sister to another clade comprising the genera Honckenya, Schiedea, and Wilhelmsia. Also the morphology of S. obtusa is peculiar and different from both these three groups and the similar apetalous members of Stellaria s.s. (S. crispa, S. media, S. pallida, and S. irrigua).A
