Notes

The genus includes about 15 species, the exact number, however, is unknown and a taxonomic treatment is needed. Sesuvium contains an African clade consisting of C4 species and an American clade consisting of Cypselea (also C4) and a C3 Sesuvium clade (Bohley & al. 2015). Sesuvium portulacastrum (L.) L., which belongs to the American clade, is found along tropical and subtropical coasts.
