Notes
The genus comprises three species that grow in temporarily wet saline habitats in Iran and surrounding countries (Akhani & al. 2005, 2012). The discovery of Akhani & al. (1997) and Freitag & Stichler (2002) that B. cycloptera Bunge is a C4 plant without Kranz tissues triggered a large number of physiological, biochemical, and genetic studies investigating C4 photosynthesis in this genus (Akhani & al. 2009).A,B,C,D,E,F
