Phylogenetics: Newly circumscribed based on the results of the phylogenetic study of Korotkova & al. (2017). They found a highly supported core Epiphyllum clade including the type species and also E. chrysocardium which used to be included in Selenicereus (Bauer 2003; Hunt 2006).A

Category A. The genus is monophyletic based on a complete or very comprehensive phylogenetic study, and a phylogeny-based taxonomic synopsis was published.B
