Notes

Hylocereus and Selenicereus are morphologically very similar and all available phylogenetic studies using either plastid or nuclear DNA sequences, as well as morphological and anatomical data suggested that there was no clear separation between these genera, and that they could be merged (Hernández-Hernández & al. 2011; Bárcenas & al. 2011, Gómez-Hinostrosa & al. 2014).
The expanded Selenicereus incl. Hylocereus and Weberocereus p.p. is based on the results of the comprehensive phylogenetic study of the Hylocereeae of Korotkova et al. (2017). [Editorial]

Archived Note

Hylocereus is morphologically very similar to Selenicereus and available phylogenetic studies as well as morphological and anatomical data so far suggest that the two genera could be merged (Hernández-Hernández & al. 2011; Bárcenas & al. 2011, Gómez-Hinostrosa & al. 2014), but the two genera still need to be studied more extensively before firm conclusions on their circumscription are possible.A
