A genus of c. 12 species distributed in saline soils of central and southwest Asia, westwards to the east Mediterranean. Petrosimonia is a typical genus with bifurcate hairs. It forms a monophyletic group with Ofaiston within Caroxyleae (Akhani & al. 2007).
