Monotypic; endemic to New Zealand (South Island). The taxonomic position of Hectorella remained controversial for a long time and was even treated in a separate family along with Lyallia (Hectorellaceae; Philipson & Skipworth 1961). However, phylogenetic analyses have confirmed that this monotypic genus is nested in Montiaceae (Applequist & al. 2006; Wagstaff & Hennion 2007; Nyffeler & Eggli 2010).A,B,C,D,E
