Hectorella, Handb. N. Zeal. Fl.: 27. 1864 sec. Philipson (1993)
- Type: Hectorella caespitosa
Monotypic; endemic to New Zealand (South Island). The taxonomic position of Hectorella remained controversial for a long time and was even treated in a separate family along with Lyallia (Hectorellaceae; Philipson & Skipworth 1961). However, phylogenetic analyses have confirmed that this monotypic genus is nested in Montiaceae (Applequist & al. 2006; Wagstaff & Hennion 2007; Nyffeler & Eggli 2010).
